As I had mentioned in my previous post, GTB Nagar is an amazing place to visit for food. This time I am going to share my experience with YOLO21 , another great place to eat at GTB Nagar.
YOLO21 is not too far away from Rico's, infact when you walk down the road outside the GTB Nagar metro station exit gate 3 , you will find a line of pocket friendly restaurants. You can avail an e-rickshaw or battery rickshaw service but I prefer to walk as I love experiencing the visuals around me.
At almost 500 metres from GTB Nagar metro station you will come across a small sign board with YOLO21 written on it. Take a small flight of stair and voila!!! You are at YOLO21. When you enter the place you will notice the warm yet energetic atmosphere with bright yellow lights. Feels like they are saying " I am inviting but I also love to have some fun!!".
YOLO21 has a see through kitchen, so if you are the type to enjoy watching someone cook, you can watch the chefs create their latest piece of art.
Let me take you on a culinary journey through YOLO21.
First up was the Fish n Chips!!! This classic British is something I really do enjoy and YOLO has not disappointed me on this. For those of you who do not know what fish n chips is , it is the national dish of England. Fish coated in flour or breadcrumbs deep fried and served with french fries ( or chips in England) and tartar sauce. The version which YOLO serves is the breadcrumb coated fish and it was delicious. The fish was soft and tender but the coating was fried well. They serve simple salted french fries on the side which is good as you do not want too many of flavors clashing. Oh and if you want to try something interesting I would suggest spreading the tartar sauce over the fish and then eat it. The mild sauce went perfectly with the fried fish. The combination was amazing!!!
Next up were the Milano prawns with a European Garlic Dip. These were fried prawns tossed in a European Garlic dip. The sauce was absolutely noteworthy. Based on what I have tasted, it was a tomato based sauce with a lot of garlic(you gotta love garlic!!!) and seasoned with basil. I loved how balanced the sauce was when it came to flavor. It was a little sweet, a little sour and a little spicy. Also, the idea of basil was amazing. I personally believe basil goes really well with sauces that have a tomato base. Another tip here, if you have french fries with you, do not hesitate to use the European sauce as a dip. You will not regret it!!!
After having two amazing starters ,my friend and I were a little stuffed and did not have space for a main course. Instead, we thought why not complete the meal with a third starter!!! Enter Drums of Heaven!!!. Drums of Heaven is one of my goto dishes and I am usually very particular about it. When this beauty came out of the kitchen I was in awe!!! There was a dominant garlic smell and flavor and it got me drooling. Additionally there was a lot of sauce which you could not get enough of. The chicken was a little on the sweeter side which I do not usually prefer, but in this case I was willing to make an exception. The true test for drums of heaven is if the chicken remains crispy after adding the sauce and in this case YOLO passed the test. It was surprising how crunchy and crispy the chicken was despite the fact that there was a lot of sauce on it. When you take a bite of the chicken, you can feel all the elements coming through. First, the visual appeal of the dish, then the smell of garlic followed by the sweet and spicy sauce and then you bite the chicken and hear the crunch and taste the fried goodness and finally, when you smack your lips for a last taste of the chicken you archive it into your memory!!! The dish appeals to all your senses and provides a complete sensory experience.
To wash down all the delicious goodness we ordered the craft sodas available on the YOLO menu.
I took a Cranberry Kamikaze and my friend ordered an Orange Crush. I was expecting the Cranberry Kamikaze to be red, but to my surprise it was blue. That was rather interesting. It was more like a granita or slushie with tons of ice in it but you could taste the cranberry flavor and it paired well with all the dishes. The orange crush on the other hand was not a slushie. It was more of a soda with a dominant orange flavor and the right amount of sugar to it. Both the drinks went well with our courses and were rather refreshing!!!Oh and yes, that is Michael Jackson in the background. He wants to say you experience will be a "Thriller"( You do not have to tell me,I know i make bad puns)
We finally ended our meal and were rather stuffed but we were happy with what we ate and are looking forward to more experiences with YOLO21 . I will keep you posted of our next visit.
Happy Eating!!!!!!
